New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is 18km west of the city center in Kenner. There are virtually no international flights to New Orleans so connections from other major US cities are necessary. There is a reliable airport shuttle from the airport to downtown New Orleans and taxis are relatively cheap as well.
Amtrak trains arrive from the Union Passenger Terminal on Loyola Ave in the Central Business District. There are three services; one from Memphis and Chicago, one from Washington and New York and one from Los Angeles and Miami.
Greyhound Bus have services to all major US cities from the bus terminal, also at Union Passenger Terminal, they are the cheapest but least comfortable means of travel.
Interstate 10 is the nation's major east-west route along the southern boundary linking Jacksonville with Los Angeles via New Orleans. The north-south routes, I-55 to Chicago and I-59 to Chattanooga, meet I-10 to the west and east of New Orleans on either side of Lake Pontchartrain.
