Newcastle, New South Wales, is Australia's sixth largest city. The city is located about 160 kilometres north of Sydney and has plenty of fascinating sights to offer, including convict ruins and fine Victorian architecture. Newcastle’s spectacular beaches have been celebrated with the creation of the Bathers Way, a five-kilometre stroll that starts at Nobbys and finishes at Merewether Beach. The city also has a good reputation for its colourful calendar with an expansive array of cultural events each year.

A short walk from the city centre you’ll find the best of nature at Blackbutt Reserve. The facilities here allow you close viewing of a wide variety of Australian wildlife. Just a short walk away is the majestic King Edward Park, which has spectacular coastal views and is only one out of an abundance of splendid parks in the city.

For wining and dining, try one of the harbourside cafes, bars or restaurants. Newcastle has much to offer after dark; when the sun's gone down there's a plethora of places to suit your tastes with some of the finest entertainment venues on Australia’s east coast.

If you’re feeling adventurous take time to explore the amazing Shipwreck Walk along Stockton Breakwall and enjoy the views across the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes, then take Fullerton Road to the Pacific Highway and on through the glorious countryside to Fern Bay.

Newcastle Airport (Williamtown) is the major regional airport and is located 30 minutes from Newcastle city centre. The city is part of the City Rail network centred on Sydney. There are many frequent return services daily. If you are coming by car, the main access from Sydney is via the F3 Freeway.
