Car Hire in Newark - Getting to Newark
Newark Liberty International Airport is the busiest airport in the New York City region with a separate international terminal. It also has the best public transport service in the region. AirTrain Newark has an airport rail station, which also connects to the airport monorail. NJ Transit also offers bus connections to the terminal from downtown Newark and various points in New York City (30 mins). Taxis are available but are more expensive and often slower.
Newark is served by three public rail stations as well as a subway line. New York City is less than 15 minutes away by train from downtown Newark; you can also travel throughout NJ and as far as Boston or Washington DC on trains from the city. From Penn Station you can take an Amtrak or PATH service to Washington, Jersey City and the northeast.
Greyhound buses run regularly from the New Jersey Transit centre to destinations all along the Eastern seaboard as well as inland. This is the cheapest but least comfortable means of travel.
Seven major highways and roads traverse Newark, including I-280, I-78, I-95 (NJ Turnpike), the Garden State Parkway, US Routes 1 and 9, Route 21 and Route 22. Several of these lead to and from the major NYC bridges and tunnels.
