The airport is currently undergoing large investment and expansion. It mainly serves the US domestic market, with such carriers as Southwest, US Airways, AA, Continental and Delta Airways. The airport is situated 10 miles west of New Orleans with frequent bus connections with the city.

There is only one terminal at the airport, with four concourses A, B, C and D.

Whitney National Bank and post office are situated in the main ticket hall. ATMs and bureaux de change are located across the airport, in the East Lobby near Concourse B, in the ticket lobby next to the bank, in the West Terminal, on the Lower Level near the Southwest Airlines Baggage Claim, and on the Lower Level near the Charter Baggage Claim.

A variety of restaurants and cafés are located throughout the terminal and you will find many shops situated around the terminal. Further facilities include a lost property office, open 24-hours, which is positioned on the upper level of the West lobby near Concourse C. Note that lockers are not available however Rush-it Courier Services provides a storage facility at the baggage reclaim area between baggage carousels 5 and 6.

The airport has a conference centre (Tel: 504 464 3547) open 0830-1630, positioned on the mezzanine level above Concourse C. It provides meeting rooms which house up to 50 people, with audiovisual equipment, conference calling, data ports, presentation equipment and catering services all provided.

The airport is fully adapted for people with disabilities and there are eleven TDD telephones (Tel: 504 463 1057) positioned around the airport.

Visitor information services are open daily from 0800-2100. These are positioned in the West Lobby (Tel: 504 464 2752), in the West Terminal (Tel: 504 463 1020) and in the East Baggage Claim area.
