Mini guide to Nevsehir

Nev?ehir Province is situated in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. The city Nev?ehir, formerly known as Mu?kara, is the capital district of the Nev?ehir Province.

Located within the historical region of Cappadocia, Nev?ehir is the regional transport center and town for the surrounding area and is the perfect point to start exploring the remnants of Cappadocian towns and villages. The ancient settlements here date back to 3000 BC, and the city also spots some astonishing ruins of the Seljuk period.

Nev?ehir is renowned for its traditional carpet weaving and viticulture, though today, the Cappadocia sites attract more tourists than any other traditional trade specialties. The region's close proximity to the Cappadocian underground shelters, monasteries, the fairy chimneys, caravanserais and rock-carved churches, has made Nev?ehir one of the main Turkish holiday locales.

Nev?ehir's archaeological and ethnographical museum with its collection of Byzantine, Hittite, Roman and Ottoman artifacts, coupled with some beautiful mosques around the town, reflects the province's unique heritage.

Throw in the tourist targeted and extremely popular Hammam (Turkish bath) at Avanos, and your Nev?ehir experience is to cherish forever!

Gï申reme

A trip to Nev?ehir is incomplete without visiting the center of the Cappadocian tourist industryï申 Gï申reme. The basic yet comfortable accommodation and supplies available at Gï申reme is designed to suit your budget and if you are planning to stay a while, you can also find a job in the tourist industry to finance your stay. The Gï申reme Open Air Museum, located in Turkey's Gï申reme Valley, with its cluster of medieval painted cave-churches is a must on your Nev?ehir travel dos.
