The 18th century Palazzo Reale di Capodimonte has a fine collection of Rennaissance art. The National Archaeological Museum contains an both extensive collection of Greco-Roman art as well as the priceless treasures discovered at Pompeii and Herculaneum.
For a relaxing afternoon, one can stroll in the Via Floridiana, a lush public park spilling down from the Vomero to Mergelina and take in Italy’s oldest opera house, the Teatro San Carlo in the elegant Piazza Trento e Trieste.
By car you can visit the lovely Amalfi coast the ruins of Pompeii and the quaint villages in the hinterland.
