Car Rental Munich - Exploring Munich
Apart from peak festival times, Munich's roads are relatively uncrowded and easy to navigate, with well-placed road signs marking all routes and tourist sites. Daytrips are an excellent way to view the picturesque countryside, with its expansive lakes and remote palaces. The cream of Munichs palaces can be seen in Schleissheim. Attractions here include the opulent Neues Schloss Schleissheim and the Schloss Lustheim with its breathtaking Baroque interior.
The nearby Flugwerft Schleissheim has exhibits on international aviation history and displays aircraft from around the world. To reach Schleissheim by car, take the S-Bahn to Oberschleissheim and follow the signposts for about 15minutes.
Another interesting drive is to Starnberg, less than 30 minutes from Munich's centre on the S-Bahn. This historical Royal Retreat lies next to Lake Starnberg in the beautiful Five Lakes District.
One of Munichs favourite tourist attractions is the Andechs, a Benedictine monastery perched on the top of a hill. Here you can taste the excellent beers that the Andechs monks have been brewing for the last 500 years.
Simply wandering through the Bavarian countryside is rewarding, with its fairytale castles and the wooden hills of the Black Forest.
