Situated in southern Alsace, Mulhouse is a city rich in cultural heritage where you can walk the cobbled streets of the old town and gaze at the 19th century architecture. It boasts no less than eight industrial and technical museums and an informative zoological and botanical garden that has over 200 species of animals.

One of the town’s most magnificent buildings is St Etienne's Protestant Church, next to the place de la Reunion, which has some fascinating 14th century stained glass windows. The Musee de Beaux Arts, just over the street, has an impressive collection of fine art dating from the Middle Ages.

There are many pleasant parks in Mulhouse. Most noticeable is Wallach Park, an oasis in the middle of the city that has a fun maze to get lost in. Another park is Salvator Park, which is also in the city centre and has some appealing floral displays.

For eating out, head to place de la Reunion in the old town, where you can eat all manner of dishes surrounded by magnificent buildings. It’s also a great place to shop, with its abundance of old fashioned haberdashers, butchers, blacksmiths, and craft stores.

On the outskirts of town is the Museum of Electrical Energy, which has plenty of hands-on activities to keep you amused. Close by is the French Railway Museum, which showcases some interesting steam locomotives.

There’s a small airport in Mulhouse (L’Euro Airport) with flights coming from most large French cities and some other European cites. From the airport you can take a taxi to the city centre. By car you can take the A6 from Paris to Beaune, and take the A36 from Beaune to Mulhouse. The German border is also easily accessible from here.
