Car Hire in Montreal - Getting to Montreal
Montréal's main airport, Dorval, is one of Canadas busiest, servicing many US cities, with regular trans-Atlantic flights to all main European destinations as well. Situated 22kms west of the city, the airport is modern, well equipped for tourists and has reliable and frequent bus and shuttle connections into the city. Asian and Australian visitors have to connect via Vancouver or other west coast airports to reach Montréal.
Distances are large in Canada, even among the cluster of mid eastern cities, and trains are the most comfortable means of land travel. VIA Rail Canada operates out of Gare Centrale (Central Station) downtown and most departures travel the Québec City-Windsor route that goes to Niagara Falls. There are also US Amtrak trains departing for the US eastern seaboard and Great Lake area cities.
Bus is the cheapest form of long-distance travel to/from Montréal and there are regular services to other major Canadian cities in the west. Buses leave from the Station Centrale de l'Autobus in the Quartier Latin, just east of the university.
A good network of highways make journeys to Quebec city and Ottawa easy.
