Montepaone is a small town in the Catanzaro province in southern Italy. This small town highly relies on tourism especially from northern Italy and the US Italians. The town is about 38km from the Catanzaro town. The city is famous for its thermal baths.
History:According to historians view the town grew up on the ruins of Aurunco. The city suffered a siege in 1594 and most of the people were converted to Islam. The city was also attacked by two major earthquakes in 1659 and 1783.
How to get here??The town can be reached through the SP116, SP106, and SP124 highways. You can also take a diversion from the A3 Motorway. The nearest airport is situated at Lamezia Terme (SUF). You can also reach the town by train. The nearest station is at Lamezia, from where you can hire a local taxi and reach Montepone.
Geography:The town is located at a fairly mountainous region at a elevation of 316m. The city has a small population who reside here. The town is relatively small and spread over a area of about 17 square km. In the foots of these mountains is a beautiful Beach.
Getting Around the city:Being relatively smaller you can walk over to most of the places and it’s the best suited mode. You can also hire local taxis for just over 3 Euros or drive around in a bicycle.
Places to Visit:The city doesn’t have many tourist spots except for the beautiful beach at one side of the town. The church which was built in the late 18th century is also a place to visit. The common attraction in the city is its Steamed or Thermal Baths.
