Car Rental Milwaukee - Exploring Milwaukee
Milwaukee is well located in an area rich in interesting natural and man-made attractions. Hiring a car gives you the freedom to explore the region at your own pace along the excellent road network.
One hour north of Milwaukee is the luxurious American Club, the Midwest's top resort. Built in 1918 to house immigrants working in the Kohler factory, the grand Tudor-style American Club was converted into a hotel in 1981 and now offers 236 guest rooms. Not surprisingly, the American Club is known for its bathrooms, each of which has a whirlpool tub.
The resort's extensive facilities include four Pete Dye-designed golf courses; a 202-hectare wilderness preserve with cross-country skiing and horseback riding, as well as 40kms of trails.
Although the Wisconsin Dells are the state's largest tourist attraction, the 24kms of soaring, eroded sandstone cliffs and cool, fern-filled gullies remain relatively unspoilt. The Wisconsin River flowed through soft limestone for thousands of years to carve out the wild gorges here.
The Dells, both the town and the geological wonder, are 88kms north of Madison. The popularity and plethora of indoor water parks in the Dells has made the area a year round family destination. Parks combine water slides and wave pools with resort-style accommodations, all under one roof.
Wisconsin's state capital, Madison, known as the City of Four Lakes, is also a city of parks, and its streets are enlivened by bookstores, cafés and student activity. Madison's most bustling thoroughfare, State Street, and the downtown area, Capitol Square, are great places to browse eclectic shops and visit unique cafés and restaurants. In the summer, Capitol Square hosts a vibrant, open-air Dane County Farmer's Market on Saturday and Wednesday mornings.
