Car Hire in Miami - Getting to Miami
Miami is served by two main airports: Miami International Airport (MIA), about 19 km west of downtown, and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL), about 48km north of the city. MIA is one of the busiest airports in the US as it is a major hub between South America and the US. Most Major European airlines service Miami but from Australia and New Zealand you have to change in Los Angeles. There is a public bus service from MIA as well as private shuttle services. FLL has a tri-rail service running to the edge of downtown Miami every hour.
Metrorail runs through downtown Miami to the south and connects with the tri-rail commuter service at Government centre. Here you can catch Amtrak trains to major cities in the US.
Greyhound has three bus terminals in Miami with services to New York, Washington, Atlanta, New Orleans and Orlando. It is the cheapest but least comfortable means of traveling. Metrobus, the citys local bus service, connects all three bus terminals.
Despite being slightly remote, Miami is a convenient destination to get to by car. Floridas major turnpike the I-95 passes through Miami. The I-10 is a great way to get here from West Florida as it passes through the beaches of Pensacola and across the Florida Panhandle.
