Car Rental Miami - Exploring Miami
A two-hour drive from Miami is the world famous Everglades, spreas across the the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. It is the largest subtropical wilderness in the US - home to crocodiles and alligators, bottle-nosed dolphins, manatees, snowy egrets, bald eagles and ospreys. You can spend an afternoon or stay for days canoeing around the 10,000 islands, or even ride a swamp rat.
If you want to visit a tropical paradise, drive south to the Florida Keys along an island-hopping highway that ends at Key West. Although overrun by tourists, there is still some great diving off the southern shore and the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum is one of Key West's biggest attractions. Mallory Square, at the far northwestern tip, is the site of nightly sunset celebrations.
Despite Fort Lauderdales reputation as party town for American college students, its recently renovated image as an international yachting centre makes it a pleasant stop. Described as the Venince of America , the city is pleasant (winter residence for many millionaires) and can become quite lively along its river front and Atlantic promenade.
More family orientated, but at least hapf a days drive away, is Orlando; home of Disneyworld, the Epcot centre and Seaworld. Cape Canaeveral is also a unique attraction, especially if you time your visit to witness a space shuttle launch.
