The heart of the city, Cento Historico, is built on the ruins of an original Aztec capital and has many examples of colonial architecture. Alameda Central is a beautiful park in the centre of town packed with Mexican families on weekends. At the east end, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, is the Palace of fine arts with some of Mexicos greatest art works on display. Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico Citys grandest boulevard, runs from Centro Historico to Chapultepec Park home to a zoo, lakes and museums namely the famous Museo Nacional de Antropologia.
Two southern suburbs, Coyoacan and San Angel are charming with their narrow cobbled streets, colonial houses, cafes and a generally festive atmosphere especially with the Bazar Sabado every Saturday. A 600m walk south is Plaza Loreto, an attractive mall with amphitheatre, multi screen cinemas, restaurants and the Museo Soumaya.
