Mazatlan is located on the Gulf of California, 1078kms northwest of Mexico City and 502kms northwest of Guadalajara. It can be reached by car from Nogales, Arizona via International Highway 15. This will lead into Culiacán, where the road changes to a four-lane toll way. Once on the toll way, the total driving time to Mazatlan is about 10 hours. You can also drive from Puerto Vallarta, which is about 560kms from Mazatlan. Take Highway 200 to Las Varas, where it becomes Highway 68. Follow this road until the detour to Highway 15 north, which will take you to Mazatlan.
Buses to Mazatlan depart everyday on an hourly basis from Mexico City and Guadalajara. From Mexico City, its about a 7-hour trip and from Guadalajara about a 14-hour journey.
SEMATUR operates passenger ferries between Mazatlan and La Paz, Baja California. The ferry leaves daily in the afternoon and carries cars, with Thursday reserved for cargo and seated passengers. The trip takes 18 hours.
