Car Hire Mataro - Mini guide to Mataro
MataroMataro is a very interesting place to visit in the Province of Barcelona. The remains of a Roman bathhouse dating back to the 1st century were recently found and can be visited as part of a tour. Mataro also made history when it became the first city in Spain to get the railway.
Many of the streets are pretty and lined with lovely trees and there is also a beach to visit lined with palm trees. The wine industry here was booming until the Phylloxera in the 19th century, but is starting to be replenished due to the demand of locals and the tourism industry. Other agricultural products include potatoes, peas and lettuce.
A famous Spanish architect, Josep Cadafelch was born here, and designed the town hall building and various others of interest in the 19th century such as the Casa Parera. For a fun holiday, be sure to visit during the festival times. There are many festivals and events that are traditional folk lore and religious such as the Saint Joan in Mataro, Carnival, Easter, Three Wise Men, St. George and more. Aside from that, visitors flock here every year for the Music of the World Festival and the International Dance Festival.
