Getting to Manchester
Manchesters busy International Airport is about 10 miles out of the city centre. It has three terminals and direct links to many regional and a few international destinations (trans-Atlantic) including regular flights to all major European cities, usually no more than an hour or two away.
There are swift and direct train services running to the airport from the city centre itself and from many suburban train stations. There are also two or three buses every hour which can be boarded from anywhere along the Wilmslow Rd route. A taxi to the airport should cost approximately £5.
Piccadilly and Victoria are the two major train stations in the city centre itself. Victoria tends to offer lines to major British destinations and many small towns in the locality, where Piccadilly services most regional centres and mainland European cities via the channel tunnel.
Chorlton Street Bus Station offers regular inter-city coaches to all cities in the UK and many cities throughout Europe. For people wishing to travel to European destinations, tickets are best obtained through private travel agencies although given the recent growth in no frills airlines it is often cheaper and much faster to fly.
Major highways to all major British cities run close to Manchester, and usually lead off from the M6 north or south which is accessed via the orbital. The ring road can be somewhat confusing.
