Car Rental Malta - Exploring Malta
Malta basks in glorious Mediterranean sun, with many lovely beaches and secluded bays, as well as spectacular cliffs and rocky promontories. It also boast an incredible history, with a unique 3000 year heritage dotted all over its two main islands.
Hagar Qim has prehistoric temples from the Copper Age. They are the oldest known buildings in the world, consisting of giant megaliths, animistic carvings and sacrificial altars. Theres also a fantastic sea view from this site.
Cottonera consists of three ancient cities, Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicuam, and has an interesting maritime legacy. It hasnt been overrun by tourists and offers a glimpse into the islands working life. Particularly interesting is the Hypogeum, consisting of a 4400-year-old underground rock-carved network of caves, tunnels and rooms. Staunchly catholic, Malta doesnt offer a truly happening night life, but restaurants and hotels are top class.
Gozo, the smaller island, is much prettier, slower and quieter. Ancient structures are also dotted about the largely rural countryside, and the 17th century Victoria is the only significant settlement. The citadel commands a great view of the surroundings. The Calypso's Cave, in the cliffs overlooking Ramla Bay on the northeastern coast, are eerie and the Ggantija temple complex is one of the most historic in the Mediterranean. The island also has an inland sea, sheltered by cliffs, making it one of the Mediterraneans most scenic. The Azure Window is a giant rock arch in the cliff.
