In the municipality of Madrid you will find a city that was founded in the 13th century called Majadahonda. This is one of the great historic battlegrounds of the Spanish Civil War and was originally a farming community. It is now growing rapidly as are all the places surrounding Madrid. The growth of a residential area began in the 1960’s only and this time period saw the most change in the city.

Schools, house, hospitals, libraries and sports facilities were constructed and these area all being used today. A wonderful feature in Majadahonda is the various pretty city gardens that were established in the 1960’s, to complete the transformation from farming community to urban community. There are not many older historical elements to see in this town, as it was destroyed during the Civil wars and then again by the Second World War.

For a lovely getaway in the more rural outskirts of Madrid, Majadahonda is the place to go. There are wonderful hotels and restaurant that you can find just by walking through the streets. You will also find interesting shops, art galleries, art centres, and sports fields where you can perhaps watch a local game. If you are interested in the tragic history of this area, then a trip to the local tourism office or museums will be highly recommended.
