Car Hire Lloret de Mar - Mini guide to Lloret de Mar
Lloret de Mar is located in the Spanish region of Catalonia on the Costa Brava. This is one of the Mediterranean's most popular resorts and certainly the liveliest holiday spot on this stretch of the Spanish coastline.
Lloret de Mar boasts a broad hotel infrastructure and first-class nightlife, entertainment and shopping facilities. It's delightful to stroll down the bustling promenade Passeig del Mar, passing the "Casa de la Vila", or Town Hall, an edifice dating from the middle of the 19th century, and the Garriga House.
Tourism transformed this former fishing and trading centre in the 1950s and the town's grand manorial homes were bulldozed to make way for high rise hotels, apartment blocks and urbanisations. You'll still be able to find plenty of evidence of the area's rich history and culture which the local authorities are doing their utmost to preserve. An ancient Iberian settlement, dating back to around 250 BC, has been fully excavated at the hilltop site of Puig de Castellet.
Lloret de Mar offers a wealth of entertainment and five safe, sandy beaches which bask in the high temperatures during the summer months. The main beach is the place to head for watersports - ranging from paraflying and jet skis to pedaloes. Europe's biggest water park, an aquatic zoo and Universal Studios' Port Aventura theme park are all within easy reach. There are also abundant British bars, discos, organised beach antics and foam parties to keep the most hardened reveler happy for a fortnight.
Visit Sta Caleta, a ruined castle which overlooks the beach at Lloret de Mar. From the castle you can take a magnificent cliff top walk that offers great views of the rugged coastline. Lloret is also 70 kilometres north of the regional capital of Barcelona and 150 kilometres south of the French border.
Lloret is 105 km from Barcelonas airport.
