The Botanical Gardens (Hortus Botanicus) was established by professors and students in 1590 where they grew tropical plants and trees in greenhouses. Carolus Clusius, a botanist, brought the first bulbs of tulips here in 1593 and planted them. They have reconstructed the original gardens, which were named after him in acknowledgment to the scholarly works he did.
