Car Rental Leeds - Exploring Leeds
The area surrounding Leeds itself is packed full of beautiful nature and historical monuments.
Bramham Park, built in 1698, contains fine collections of furniture, porcelain and paintings and its famous gardens offer the peaceful tranquility of 66 acres of formal gardens, unique in the British Isles. Here you can see magnificent displays of flowers in spring and summer, with ornamental ponds, cascades, tall beech hedges and loggias of various shapes.
Not too far away, in the Haworth area, is the birthplace of four of the Brontë children. Thornton is an ancient village appearing in the Domesday book as Torenton meaning an enclosure fenced by thorn trees. The village is like many other West Yorkshire villages audaciously standing on steep hillsides.
Harewood is one of the great treasure houses of England and a great family day out. Visit the Adventure Playground, explore the Gardens and Bird Gardens, take a boat trip across the lake or marvel at the collections in the house.
Walkleys Canalside Mill is a visitors centre and the starting point for rail trips, woodland walks and rural activities. Visit displays about the history of carpet or clog-making; the original cottage of the mills boilerman; learn about the world of the honey bee and visit the factory china shop. Outside, children can also enjoy the Pet Farm. During the summer months, the mill can be reached via a horse-drawn barge service along the Rochdale Canal.
