Car Rental Lanzarote - Exploring Lanzarote
On the south of this small island is the Cesar Manrique Foundation - custodian of the works of Lanzarotes most famous artist. The Foundation is situated in what was Cesar Manrique's house, now known as 'El Taro de Tahiche'.
The Jardin de Cactus was the last work of Cesar Manrique, a symbol of the island's history where you can see more than 10,000 cacti.
On the southern coast El Golfo is one of the few rare examples of hydro-volcanism, namely volcanic activity that occurs near the coast. La Laguna de los Ciclos is a crater lake of the most intense green. Los Hervideros is the name by which the coast is known at the point where the waves violently strike the pathways formed by the lava floes.
The centre of the island is the protected zone of La Geria, which includes the quaint villages of Yaiza, Tias, San Bartolome and Teguise. This unusual volcanic landscape is a protected area and shows visitors a good example of how rural life is lived on these islands.
Finally, El Mirador is built into a place where previously a battery of canons was installed for use in the Spanish-American war over Cuba two centuries ago.
