This lovely village is the capital of the Aigues valley in the Provence-Alps-Côte d’Azur region of southern France. Situated within the Luberon regional park and settled on the banks of the River Eze, this village is known for its agriculture and wine making.
The remains of the 16th century Tour D’Aigues Renaissance castle retain much of the impressive architecture of the past. Extravagant décor, a majestic gateway and the elegant façade make this château a main attraction of the village. Be sure to visit the Earthenware Museum in the cellar, as well as the local history museum. In the summer, the castle is the site of the South Luberon music, dance and theatre festival.
Visitors should also visit the Notre Dame de Romégas church, which dates back to the 13th to 18th centuries. For a taste of traditional Provencal life, wander around the Tuesday morning market and sample the local produce.
