Car Hire La Plagne (Altitude location) - Mini guide to La Plagne (Altitude location)
La Plagne is a ski area located in France. It is part of the Tarentaise valley. Along with the nearby resort of Les Arcs, the area is known as the Paradiski's ski area.
It was in 1961 when La Plagne was created for the same reason that the ski resort in the Alps region were also established. These resorts were opened to encourage visitors to the valleys preventing them from being deserted. In December 1961, La Plagne only had four slopes and two lifts. With the help of ski champion Emile Allais, La Plagne grew fast.
The first La Plagne resort was just named La Plagne. In 1982, the name “Plagne Center” was used to identify it from the other ski resorts in La Plagne.
The second ski resort to open in La Plagne is the Aime-La Plagne. Although it was built in 1968, it was only opened to the public in 1969. Just like he had done for Plagne Center, Michel Besançon created the main building, which is called the “Steamer of the Snow.” In 1990, another structure, the “Club med,” with a design influenced by the Tibetan temples, was added to the ski resort.
At present, there are eleven ski resorts in La Plagne. The newer resorts include: the Champagny-en-Vanoise, built in 1969; the Montchavin; the Plagne Villages, which were opened to the public in 1972; the Plagne Bellecôte, also designed by Michel Besançon; the Les Coches, introduced in 1980; the Belle Plagne, in 1981; and the latest is the Plagne Soleil, which was opened to the public in 1990.
