Car Hire in Kuala Lumpur - Getting to Kuala Lumpur
The huge international airport (KLIA) proudly boasts state-of-the-art facilities, with inter-terminal shuttle service links and a vast array of international arrivals and departures. It is a busy hub for Asia with stopover flights en-route to Australia and New Zealand from Europe. The airport is located 75km south of the city centre and is a 90-minute trip by coach to or from the city. Alternatively, you can take a train from Nilai Station followed by a bus. Taxis are available in either direction and operate on a fixed-price coupon system, available in the airports main arrival hall.
KL is very well-serviced by air, bus and train routes and is usually speedy, comfortable and uncomplicated. KL's main bus station is Pudu Raya Terminal, not far east of Chinatown. From here, buses serve destinations all over Peninsular Malaysia, including Singapore and Thailand. Long-distance train journeys operate from the historic old train station, situated around 1 km from KL Central.
Traffic congestion has been greatly reduced in recent years by the introduction of new expressways, a remodelled rail network and the new train station. The frequent Light Rail (LRT) service is the most popular way to see the city when travelling. The city monorail is still yet to open.
Taxis are cheap in KL but beware of off-meter fares. The city one-way system does lead to time consuming road trips.
