Car Rental Kos - Exploring Kos
The Greek island of Kos is dotted with charming villages and superb white sandy beaches. Near the town of Kos, on the slopes of Mount Dikaion, you can find a number of lovely villages overlooking the sea including Asfendiou, Zia, Lagoudi, Asomatos, Agios Dimitrios and Evangelistria.
Antimachia, built on a plateau near the islands airport, has an impressive elevated Venetian castle that dominates the town as well as two well preserved Byzantine churches enclosed within it. Pyli is another well worth visiting. It is surrounded by green fields and has a ruined Byzantine fortress, which shelters a church dedicated to the Virgin within its walls.
43kms from Kos town, on the southwestern end of the island, lies Kefalos, a village endowed with wonderful sandy beaches and little tavernas. In Kefalos, at the Palatia site, you can see the ruins of Astypalaia, capital city of the island in antiquity.
For beach lovers, Kos is a paradise. Kardamena has a long beach of white sand and crystal clear waters that starts from the villages port and continues for more than three kilometres. Lambi, in Kos, town is a more orgainised beach with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. Dont miss the beach of Therma. Hot springs percolate through the black sand and warm the water - but be careful as sometimes the water gets above 40 degrees Celsius! There are other quieter beaches around the island also worth exploring by car.
