Car Hire in Kokkola - Mini guide to Kokkola
Regarded as one of the oldest cities in Finland, Kokkola is the one and only city in Central Ostrobothnia. It was founded back at 1620 and was entirely Swedish speaking back then. With development of industry, the language barrier was overthrown and Finish language was increasingly used after the 20th century. The town was originally situated on the sea but is now 5km inland due to the rise in the sea level. The “Seven Bridges of Archipelago” is a popular attraction, which is situated very near to Kokkola. The local specialty shops also attract thousands of visitors. A port is also present around 5kms from the city centre and is considered as one of the most trafficked ports.
Buses, trains, flights or ferries can reach Kokkola city. There are daily flights to Kruunupy airport which is 22 kilometres from Kokkola. Express trains take about 4 hours from Helsinki to Kokkola and the train station is also situated at the heart of the city. But the best way to reach Kokkola is by a car. Cars can be rented from car hire companies, which are present in abundance. The road also goes along the coast and the scenic “7 Bridges of Archipelago” can be seen (Road number 749). Cheap car hire companies are readily available right from the airport. They rent cars at very low rates and give an option of chauffeured drive at an extra cost. Car hire agencies can also be asked to book a car in advance, in case of some important appointments.
