Car Rental Key West - Exploring Key West
You might end up so relaxed in Key West that you not want to go anyway else, but its worth hiring a car for a few days to explore Florida northwards.
Theres a whole string of keys extending off the end of the panhandle, each with their own charm and character. Some are deserted, others busy. Private or public they are all lovely and can be explored by car, thanks to the Overseas Highway. Many small beaches are tucked away among the groves and hammocks (sea glades). Key Largo is particularly well known.
On the southern tip of the Florida peninsula lie the Everglades. This is the largest subtropical wilderness in the US and a home to crocodiles, alligators, bottle-nosed dolphins, manatees, snowy egrets, bald eagles and ospreys. You can spend an afternoon or stay for days canoeing around the 10,000 islands the home of Gentle Ben!
If you really want some action, hit the Greater Miami Area, which includes lively Miami Beach and camp South Beach, not to mention the distinctive neighborhoods of Little Havana and Little Haiti.
North of Miami is Fort Lauderdale. Known as the Venice of America because of its many pretty canals, the city is an international yachting centre, making a wander among the mariners quite a jaw-dropping experience. There is also a great sea front lined with restaurants, bars and shops, and an endless beach.
