Kassel:Kassel, is a German city located on the banks of the river Fulda. In 1943, there was a huge destruction and the city had to be rebuilt. Most of the buildings were lost and today, only few of the old buildings remain. One of these is the ""Druselturm"" which is the oldest monument in Kassel. The St.Martin Chruch and the ""Brüderkirche"" are some of the other examples of builds which have been left undamaged during the destruction.
About 63% of the total area of Kassel consists of woodlands, parks and gardens. The park is a unique composition of botanical treasures and architectural creations, art and nature in perfect harmony. The Wilhelmshöhe hillside park which contains the statue of ""Herkules"" is very famous around the world. Some of the other attractions in Kassel are the Wilhelmshöhe castle and Löwenburg.
Wilhelmshöhe Palace which is located above the city was built in 1786. The palace is today a museum and consists of a world famous wallpaper collection. This collection is an important collection of graeco-roman antiques. There is also a gallery of paintings comprising the second largest collection of Rembrandts in Germany.
Another remarkable sight-seeing spot it the Oktagon. It is a huge octagonal stone structure carrying large replica of Hercules ""Farnese"". From its base to the Wilhelmshöhe Palace runs a set of artifial cascades. Visitors are delighted by seeing these cascades during summer. The first summer observatory was built in Kassel in 1558. Soon, in 1604 the first permanent theater building, Museum Fridericianum, Europe's first public museum was constructed. Today Kassel is the focal point of German Fairy Tale road. This is a romantic tourist route and it stretches from Hanau to Bremen. The Brothers Grimm worked in Kassel and between 1812 and 1815 they wrote a large part of the fairy tales. These tales were later translated into over 140 languages.
