Car Hire in Juneau - Getting to Juneau
Many people will choose to fly directly to Juneau. International visitors can fly to one of the main North American aviation hubs, such as Vancouver or Seattle, and connect to the city via Alaska Airlines. Alaska Airlines also offers daily flights to Juneau from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Portland, Sacramento and other cities around the American northwest.
There are no roads leading to the city from the outside, so if you are driving, your best bet is to drive to Anchorage, park your car there and take one of the many inexpensive daily flights between that city and Juneau.
Getting to Anchorage from the continental USA by car is simple just take the I-5 from Seattle, which becomes Canada 2 as it winds its way through British Columbia and the Yukon Territory into Alaska, where it then becomes Alaska-2, or the Alaska Highway. Eventually Alaska-2 merges with the Glenn Highway, (Alaska-1), which goes straight into Anchorage.
The only other way to Juneau is by sea; either by ferry (short-haul from Alaskan ports) or cruise ship. Ferries are available to the city during the summer from all of the major Alaskan coastal communities, and cruise ships are available to the city from the American west coast.
