The resort town of Ithaca is located in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The area is replete with historical sites and startling areas of natural beauty. Many people are attracted to this region because of the array of outdoor activities on offer, the abundance of resorts, plus the antique and arts and crafts shops.
Main attractions in the city include the Herbert F Johnson Museum of Fine Art, home to a varied collection of local, international and historic artwork. The Ithaca Gun Company Museum offers an insight into the making of guns.
The picturesque Finger Lakes area is rich in waterfalls, hiking trails, canal cruises, local festivals, and arts and crafts shows. It's possible to rent a cabin; alternatively, those seeking something more rustic can bring a tent and head out into the wilderness.
Evenings in Ithaca can be spent in one of the many restaurants; the Antlers, an old country restaurant, is a good place down by the waterfront. Boatyard Grill and the John Thomas Steakhouse are other recommended restaurants. Additionally, there are also some lively pubs in the waterfront area.
Taughannock Falls, on the outskirts of the city, is located in Taughannock Falls State Park. These beautiful falls are actually higher than Niagara Falls, and offer some great spots for hiking and picnicking.
