Car Rental Isle of Man - Exploring Isle of Man
The autonomous Isle of Man is only 48kms long and 16kms wide, which makes exploring its many sights and geographical wonders relatively easy. The capital of the Isle of Man is Douglas, an historic town imbued with a Gaelic atmosphere and ancient castles.
Other activities in and around Douglas include: scuba diving, golfing, pony trekking, sailing, fishing and hiking in the many lush glens. There's also a fun narrow-gauge steam train that runs between Douglas and Port Erin. In June, motorcycle enthusiasts swarm over the Isle to watch the famous Tourist Trophy (TT) races.
Curraghs Wildlife Park in Ballaugh, a unique wetland setting depicting endangered environments from around the world, provides a great daytrip which is perfect for families. A visit here presents a fascinating insight into the lives of some of the rarest wetland wildlife, including many endangered species of mammals and birds. There is also a cafeteria, free parking and a miniature steam railway.
A short drive from Douglas is Castletown, once the capital of the Isle of Man and home to the dominating fortress of Castle Rushen. The residence of kings and lords of Mann for many centuries, the castle has been restored and now offers the visitor an insight into the life of its previous inhabitants.
Castletown has a lively harbour, an open-air market, indoor swimming pool, bowling green and tennis courts as well. Theres also a Nautical Museum and the old Grammar School, plus two pedestrianised streets where youll find a number of boutiques and lots of homey pubs and restaurants.
