Car Rental Inverness - Exploring Inverness
The biggest reason for coming to Inverness is to find the MONSTER! A few miles west of Inverness, the Great Glen opens up to reveal the dark, mysterious expanse of Loch Ness - one of the world's most famous attractions. Its deeper than the North Sea and has enough water to fill every lake, reservoir and river in England! The best way to see the Loch is to follow the scenic road along its northern shore.
Along the way you will discover the stunning Urquhart Castle ruins with its picture postcard location overlooking the Loch. There are two rival Loch Ness legend centres in Drumnadrochit, the Loch Ness 2000 and the Original Loch Ness Monster Visitors Centre.
Heading north from here you immediately enter the grandeur of the Highlands, as the road meanders through the moody glens towards the Isle of Skye.
Just out of town on the A82 you pass Bught Park, site of the annual Highland Games (held in August).
A day-trip south to the Cairngorms is worthwhile in any season, whether youre enjoying the pretty scenery of forests and lakes at the foot of the moody mountains, or heading to Aviemore in winter to enjoy the action at Britains only significant ski resort. Its a quaint town with a good winter atmosphere.
