The towns historic centre is stunningly picturesque, with several exquisite examples of 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th century architecture. Wander the atmospheric Herzog Friedrich Strasse and witness the splendor of the Triumph Gate, the Hofburg, the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) with its 2,657 gilded copper tiles, the Baroque Dom St Jakob Church and the ornate 14th century Imperial Palace. As you would expect from a town that has twice hosted the Winter Olympic Games, the skiing in the surrounding areas is superb, as are the hiking trials in the warmer months. The most popular destinations are Hungerburg and the Stubai Glacier.

There are many choices for interesting day trips in the surrounding Tirol region. Travel to the charming village of Wattens to see the Swarovski Kristallwelten crystal display, or visit Ehrwald and experience the magnificent scenery of the Alps from the peak of the imposing Zugspitze.
Innsbruck can be reached via connections from Vienna. Transportation options into the town are numerous and reliable. By train it is also within easy reach of Zurich and Munich.
