Car Hire Ibiza - Mini guide to Ibiza
Originally discovered by the hippies as a fine place to drop out, Ibizas more recent community of winter sunshine refugees has practically been chased out of town by a battalion of young British party animals, drawn to its world famous night life. This means that town is relatively quiet by day, leaving the history and fine beaches to the more discerning visitors. Ibiza is, nonetheless an interesting Balearic destination.
Ibiza Town or Ciutat d'Eivissa is easily the most attractive place on the island, with its old medieval walls rising from the rocky coastal cliffs. The ancient quarter is topped by a picturesque cathedral, whose illuminated clock looks out across the harbour throughout the night.
There's sea and sand close to Ibiza Town at Figueretes, Platja d'en Bossa and Talamanca. All are accessible by short and inexpensive ferry rides from the terminal near the foot of Avinguda Santa Eulària.
The streets are packed with people exploring the fashionable boutiques and stalls which line the pavements, selling everything from jewellery and sarongs to Ibiza-mix CDs. Bars stay open until 4am or later, and afterwards the action moves to the clubs until daylight.
As a break from the stress of sunbathing and the simple pleasures of wandering the streets, there are a couple of modest museums and fancy modern art galleries with prices that will amaze you even if the displays don't.
The short ferry ride to Formentera is popular. Once you arrive, rent a bike and enjoy the day on a leisurely cycle tour.
