Rent a Car Hungary - Geography Hungary
Hungary lies in the centre of Europe, sharing borders with the Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Austria and Slovenia. The topography is varied with the flat, low lying great plains and little plains in the south; and several ranges of hills in the north. Hungary's highest peak, the 1015-metre-high Kékesteto, is found in the northwest and its largest lake (out of 1000) is the Balaton. This is Europes largest lake, and most of it is less than six feet deep, nonetheless it remains a popular tourist destination for many Europeans. Hungary has three main rivers, The Danube, the Tisza and the Drava which forms the border with Croatia. Due to growing agriculture, only a small amount of the country remains forested. To combat this many protected areas have been set up and there are five national parks. These forests consist of beech, fir and oak and are inhabited with various wild animals including the boar, otter, deer and some wild cats. With abundant lakes and natural water sources, Hungary has a vast array of bird life mainly waterfowl.
