Car Hire Hull - Mini guide to Hull
The City of Hull, East Yorkshire, is now a very cosmopolitan place with a beautiful marina, great shopping centres, super museums, historical pubs and loads of other great places to visit within a 50-mile radius.
Fort Paull is a must for visitors to the region. It is the only remaining intact example in Yorkshire of a fortress with Henrican, English Civil War and Napoleonic origins. A series of displays and exhibits capture different periods of history with waxwork figures depicting famous contemporary scenes.
The city centre has spacious pedestrianised shopping streets and many distinguished public buildings. The Old Town, where Hull began about 800 years ago, offers narrow, cobbled lanes and quays. Here you will find Holy Trinity Church, founded 700 years ago, 18th and 19th century architecture and a wide range of museums such as the Hull Maritime Museum, Kingston upon Hull Exhibition Centre, Town Docks Museum, and Yorkshire Water Museum.
In the historic dockland there is an elegant yacht harbour, and Olympic-standard Ice Arena, a Bowling Centre and an extensive range of shopping facilities. There is also a satisfying variety of entertainment, with theatre and music to satisfy most tastes. Ferens Art Gallery is worth a visit. Hull has its own annual International Jazz Festival featuring the best in modern jazz from Britain and around the world (August).
Because the area is predominantly agricultural, East Yorkshire's long farming heritage is proudly preserved on working farms and mills. There are several beautiful country parks and natural areas such as The Humber Bridge Country Park, Millington Wood and Barton Clay Pits/Country Park Project. The beautiful city of Lincoln is also about 35 miles away.
Trains leave from Hull Station to London Kings Cross Station every hour (duration three hours). All trains go via Doncaster. Humberside Airport is 11 miles away, and Leeds Bradford Airport a 53 mile drive.
