Hong Kong International Airport, known locally as Chek Lap Kok, is placed 40 kilometres west of Hong Kong city. It is a large and crowded airport, acting as a hub for much of China and South East Asia.
The considerable number of International flights to and from Hong Kong Airport are concentrated in a single enormous Airport Terminal, reckoned to be the largest enclosed space in the world. Despite its size, passengers can get around inside with speed and ease, aided by an internal shuttle train that runs between the East Hall and the West Hall.
Throughout HKG you will find ATMs representing six different banks in all. The airport’s currency exchange bureaux are located by the level 7 check-in counters, Level 6 departures, and Level 5 baggage reclaim carousels.
Hong Kong International Airport Passenger Terminal has a vast array of restaurants and shops spread evenly throughout the terminal. The non-restricted Level 8 Mezzanine has a great view of the departures hall and boasts several restaurants which offer the airport's smartest dining. There are almost 150 food and beverage outlets, many open around the clock.
Many gift shops, newsagents and speciality shops are available. The duty free shop (Hong Kong SkyMart) offers an excellent selection of goods. A post office is located in the departures hall and business facilities are located in the PCCW HKT Business Centre, open from 0700-2300. Mobile phone rental, internet connection and faxing are all possible. Further facilities exist in the Plaza Premium Lounge on the Departures level (2261 2622).
Lifts and telephones have Braille symbols and the airport provides good physical access to wheelchairs. Designated parking areas are available in carparks 1,2,3 and 4.
Hong Kong tourist board is situated on level 5 in the arrivals hall, and in the transit area. Tourist information is provided from 0700-2300 daily, and a 24-hour internet information link is available. Information counters under the airport authority can be found on levels 5 and 7.
