Car Hire Heraklion Airport
Mini guide to Heraklion Airport
Conveniently located at the edge of Heraklion (Iráklio) in Crete, this small efficient airport has basic customs facilities and handles 5 million passengers per annum, with a capacity for 8.5 million. There are daily flights from Athens and Thessaloniki, with the main bulk of flights via chartered carriers during the summer months.
There is one passenger terminal (open 24 hours a day) with 36 check-in desks and 16 gates, catering for Aegean Aviation, Cyprus Airways, Olympic, Vernicas Aviation and many other chartered airlines.
Essential facilities include the Commercial Bank of Greece, the Acropole money exchange, and a left luggage service. Refreshments include a restaurant and five cafés as well as tax-free shopping and a host of other shops. Baby-changing facilities are also available.
Bus number 78 runs regularly to Heraklion town centre and a 20 minute ride costs 0.50. By car, follow the airport road out towards Nea Alikarnassos and Heraklion (five kilometres). Taxis are the quickest option into town and to the other resorts but check the fare before riding.
There are both short- and long-term parking spaces at the airport. The information desk is located in the main hall (tel: +30 (281) 0 397129, 397136).
