Heppenheim, a city in the Hesse state in western Germany is situated in the edge of odenwald Mountains and is the capital of Bergstraße district. It is commonly known as the Wine and Festival town which has conducted the wine festival for over 50 years now with more than 25,000 inhabitants to invite you.

Heppenheim was founded in the year 755AD and was ruled by powerful monastery of Lorsch.The town was later ruled by the abbots of the Lorsch in the Middle Ages. A major fire in the year 1369 destroyed the whole of Heppenheim except for just four houses.

The town can be reached through the B3 and B460 motorways and the A5 and A67 Autobahns. You can also hire taxis from Frankfurt airport which is about 47kms away from the city.

The city is set at an elevation of 122m above the sea level and spread over an area of 52.14 square kilometer. It has an approximate population of 25,500 residents.

The Public transport system in Heppenheim is well spread system. There are Buses that ply within the city to take you to various places in the city. You can also hire local taxis or have a car that you could drive around the city.

Some of the places to visit in the Heppenheim town include the Great Heppenheimer Starkenberg Castle that was built in the year 1065, The Martin Buber House, the Strong Castle Observatory and the famous City Museum of History and Folklore which is located in Kurmainzer Amtshof which is one of the largest buildings in the town of Heppenheim.

The City has regular guided tours from the beginning of April till the end of September. The tour takes you through the historic old town and the Castle tours are and added advantage where the guides can explain about the history of these castles.

While most parts of Germany are in winters the spring blooms in Heppenheim making it look colorful. The temperature is mild in summer and the best suited time to visit is between the spring and summer.
