Car Rental Guernsey - Exploring Guernsey
Guernsey is the second largest of the Channel Islands, which, while belonging to the British Crown, are actually much closer to the coast of Normandy in France.
Drive from the capital, St Peter Port, to the most far-flung corner of this small island and visit the Maritime Museum based in Fort Grey. The fort has a distinctive Martello tower, dating from 1804 and built to thwart an invasion by Napoleon.
From Fort Grey, head to La Vallette Underground Military Museum, located in bunkers built by the German occupying forces during WWII to house refuelling tanks for German U-boats. Today the museum features military displays from Napoleonic times until 1945.
Guernsey is famed for its beaches and among the highlights is Port Soif, a stunning spot on hot sunny days when the tide is high. Here you can find yourself swimming in turquoise blue seas against a backdrop of white sand, with dunes giving the place a real tropical feel. The prize-winning beach of Vazon is another hot spot and definitely the place to go if you want to see surfers in action. It doubles as a racetrack once the sand-racing season begins.
A journey to the other Channel Islands (Sark, Herm, Jersey and Alderney) is a must. Particularly recommended is Sark. Much smaller than Guernsey, it has a unique charm as cars and many more trappings of the 21st century are prohibited on its shores. It also boasts a number of spectacular natural attractions and friendly inhabitants.
