Car Hire Guerande
Mini guide to Guerande
Guerande
Located on the Guerande peninsula in France, this quaint fortified town is surrounded by ocean, marshlands, and two different rivers. The original 15th century ramparts are still fully intact, allowing access to this beautiful city through various gateways.
Guerande is most well known for its salt pans, visible along the series of river inlets in the area. These salt flats, which have historically been the source of Guerlande’s wealth, continue to be harvested by workers who use the traditional methods to dry and extract the salt. Those in search of further information can visit the city’s salt museum.
One of the town gateways, St Michel Port, houses a castle museum with an interesting display of Guerlande’s history. For a more obscure experience, head to the doll museum as well. The St Aubin church in the town centre was constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries with the granite structure typical of the region, and is also worth a visit.
Jump in your car rental and head to the Presqu’Ile de Guerande for the day if you want to explore the coastline. This cove, filled with salt pans, is situated on the edge of the peninsula, hovering over the Atlantic Ocean. The Loire River marks the southern border of Guerande and the Vilaine River runs along the northern edge.
Other activities the city has to offer include paddle boat rides and the open air market. Visitors who don’t want to be limited to this small town are advised to book a car rental. Booking in advance allows you to lock in the best price for a car hire.
