Weather in Greece
Greece has a warm Mediterranean climate with mild wet winters and hot dry summers. The winter season, from October to April, is mild in the south but colder in the north. The temperatures drop to around 5 degrees C in most parts of the country but temperatures can be extremely low in the mountains. This season is really quiet with not much happening outside the major cities. Summers (June August) tend to the peak tourist season but can get very hot with temperatures reaching up into the 30s The heat is tempered by the northerly coastal winds known as the meltemi. Athens can be stiflingly hot, so visitors should allow time to acclimatise. Spring and Autumn (April - June and August October) are however the best times to visit. It is pleasantly warm with the uncrowded beaches and cities. In spring the mountains of Crete explode with the country's best show of wildflowers. November to March is the rainy season.
