The imposing Eggenburg Castle that watches over the city from the top of the Schlossberg is the most alluring of Graz’s architectural heritage. Other classic examples of the city’s magnificent buildings are the 16th century Uhrturm, a clocktower still using the original clockwork from 1712, the Landhaus, the Mausoleum, the Rathaus, the Domkirche Cathedral, the Minoritenkirche and the Landeszeughaus, which houses the world’s largest collection of medieval arms worldwide – almost 30,000 pieces in total.

Graz has some of Austria’s finest hotels and restaurants, and boasts many excellent cafes and bars in which to absorb the traditional atmosphere of this medieval town.
