Car Hire Granville - Mini guide to Granville
Granville is a suburb in the state of New South Wales that is twenty two kilometres west of Sydney.s CBD. Established in 1855, it got its name from a British colonial secretary, Granville Leveson-Gower, in the year 1880. Initially it bore the name Parramatta Junction.
In 1885 the area became a municipality. Granville municipality however was to be no more after 1948, because it was then made part of a bigger Parramatta city.
Development of Granville started when the New South Wales railway line terminated at the area. The area.s first post office was set up in 1878.
Initially Granville was a source of wood that was used to power steam engines in Parramatta and Sydney. Early settlers also tried grape farming which was unsuccessful but then they eventually settled on keeping of dairy cattle.
Today Granville has a cocktail of residential and commercial as well as industrial developments, with the commercial and residential ones mostly to be found in the vicinity of Parramatta Road and Granville railway station.
Granville has several historical buildings worthy of note. These include Granville Town Hall, dating back to 1888. Then there is St Marks Anglican church which was built way back in 1882. Access to this is possible by road and there are several car hire companies in the area.
As concerns Railway transport, Granville railway station is a principal station. That said though, Granville suburb is infamous for being the scene of the Granville railway accident. The accident claimed 83 lives in 1977 and to this day it still is one of Australia's worst railway disasters.
For recreation, one of Granville.s attractions is the Parramatta City Raceway where speed car racing takes place. Fans of racing usually have their fill of fun in summer. One can drive oneself to this event and there are several car hire services in the area.
