Car Hire in Gran Canaria - Getting to Gran Canaria
The Canaries are remotely situated off the north western coast of Africa and are only realistically reached by plane. All the main islands in the Canaries have international airports. Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote accept the bulk of the international flights and those from mainland Spain. You can fly to the Canaries from most European cities, sometimes stopping over in Spain. Trans-Atlantic visitors usually arrive via a European stop over. There are plenty of package deals and charter flights arriving here. Inter island flights are numerous.
The 'Aeropuerto de Gando' is modern and handles 5 million tourists a year. Situated in the southwest of the island, there are numerous taxis (15 max), but most package tourist have pre-arranged shuttles to their respective resorts.
There is a weekly ferry from the southern Spanish port of Cádiz. There are also regular inter-island ferries.
