Getting to Glasgow
Glasgow International Airport (16kms west - regular buses and rail link) handles domestic traffic, and limited international flights. Budget airlines fly from Prestwick airport (48kms southwest rail access) to London Stanstead airport. Long haul flights depart from Edinburgh International (68kms east).
Buchanan bus station is the central Glasgow terminal with regular services to all main centres in England, and frequent departures to London. Several bus companies service all significant Scottish destinations.
Rail services from London run up the west coast (4 hours), but it is also possible to arrive from the east, via Edinburgh. Central station serves southern Scotland, England and Wales, and Queen St serves the north and east. There are buses every 10 minutes between them. Trains are pricier than buses, but advanced purchase tickets are competitive. ScotRail has the West Highland line heading north to Oban and Fort William and other direct links to Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness, as well as southern local destinations.
By car, the M8 is a busy highway which heads east to Stirling and Edinburgh, the M80 is the major artery north to Oban and the Highlands, and the M74 takes you south to England.
