Girona stands in the mountainous north-eastern tip of Spain and is a close neighbour to both France and Andorra. It is best explored by car.
Andorra comprises just a few hundred miles of mountainous landscapes and meandering rivers, and contains some of the most dramatic scenery in the Pyrenees. During the dry months, there are plenty of good hiking opportunities and in the winter theres great skiing to be had.
The major driving route into and out of Andorra from Spain is the CG1 over the unforgettable Port d'Envalira - the highest pass in the Pyrenees.
One the most famous towns in the Pyranees is Pamplona, and it you can squeeze in there during April you can run with the bulls during the exhilarating festival of San Fermin.
Driving south to the coast, Barcelona is the provinces main urban centre, Spain's second city and the country's hippest town. Many of the buildings feature the work of the eccentric genius Gaudí and there are numerous museums and galleries with significant collections by Picasso and Miró. The city is one of the highlights of Europe and must be seen.
Further down the coast, Lloret de Mar lies at the heart of the Costa Brava and is one of Spains trendiest holiday resorts. The beach here consists of coarse golden sand and shingle and a beautiful seafront promenade which is lined with tall palms. Nearby Calella has a 2 mlei long beach with a watersports centre and a leisure centre and Estartit is great for scuba diving.
