Germany is a heavily industrialized country with over a third of the land area cultivated. They have a large population therefore you wont have to travel far before you hit a town. The lowlands in the north of Germany stretch from the Netherlands to Poland, bridging the North and Baltic seas. The two main rivers, The Rhine and the Main are essential for inland shipping to the heavily industrialised central belt. To the south, the Danube River drains the Bavarian highlands from the Black Forest near the French and Swiss borders, to Munich. The southern reaches of the Bavarian Alps give way to Austria. Germanys wild life is scarce with mainly wild pig, fox and deer. There are two large forested areas including the Bavarian Forest which is the largest mountain forest in Europe and the Black Forest. In order to preserve these natural areas for humankind, a large number of vast protective areas have been created during the last decade, all worthwhile visiting. There are also more than 90 nature parks, 13 biosphere reserves and 13 national parks, which are all internationally recognized.
